Dia Del Los Reyes!

If you are Puerto Rican then you know we celebrate Los Reyes. After Christmas put a Reyes statue as a centerpiece on your dinning room table so the kids know - it's no over yet "Faltan Los Reyes." Celebrate it Puerto Rican style, that is....have the kids cut grass or greenery on January 5th and put it in a box under their bed. Put a small gift from Los Reyes in the box once they fall asleep - and don't forget to throw out the grass. Have a special and festive Día De Reyes meal that day. Take pictures of your children with their boxes. After dinner make it a tradition to sing a Reyes song. Here is a classic one usually sang.

Los Reyes arrive before dawn on January 6th. For centuries Puerto Rican children have celebrated Los Reyes in the same manner as their grandparents did when they were children. January 6 is called Epiphany and is traditionally the day in which the Magi arrived bearing gifts for the Christ child. Even to this day in Hispanic countries throughout the world, January 6 is the day that children receive their Christmas gifts, in commemoration of the Magi's visit.

40 Days of No Social Networking: Aftermath

How did I begin? Well, I guess I'll start with the basics. I was to honor my faith and give up one of my vices during Lent, I chose all social networking, minus my Blog. I uninstalled all possible options to either help me view and/or check out social networking outlets like, facebook, MySpace, twitter, etc. I kept my blog active as I use it sometimes to vent or get my thoughts across on stuff that plague my mind. Here are some of the thing I discovered;

The first week was a bit annoying if anything, it wasn't hard or difficult, just a little annoying. It was because I changed my habit, cold turkey, like if I was a smoker and just stopped smoking. I realize that it was a truly mind over matter thing. I decided to move other something else to pick that habit up, in this case was checking news feeds and interacting more with my "real-life-in-person" friends and family. I got teased along the way from other friends that knew I gave it up for lent. I focused more into my work and close one around me. As the weeks went by, I got used to not needed to check my twitter or facebook and accepted that reality. For yours truly, it was not a large challenge.

During this time, to my disappointment, I ended a great close friendship that I share with someone whom I really cared for (relating post). Along with that comes the realization that things or situations come to those that may not have the ability to control, but in that instant you discover more of what kind of person you are and how you will grow to be. I don't look at this as a bitter situation at all, in fact, it was a freeing moment for both of us. I could only wish the best, and hope that I get the best. The best is what I'm going to strive for, both personally and professionally.

I know I'm strong enough to succeed. I've taken a financial hit in a world where we worry more about how pirates raid ships and less about how we can strive as a race or whole being. On top of that, I have an opportunity to make a better life for myself and all who surround their lives around me. I'm taking my changes with full faith, faith in myself. During this time in lent, I spent a small time on vacation out in Vegas which was hella fun. We pretty much got to walk around to and go everywhere and anywhere we wanted to without regard or regret. I had a lot of time to think about me, and focus more on what things I want. I'm starting to put together a big Birthday Party for myself to celebrate my 30th Birthday this year! It will be great and symbolize my new journey, as a stronger and much better person. Sorry if it seems I'm too philosophical on this post, I assure you that I'm still my crazy out going self, and will not only stay that way, but will also upgrade my career, social, and family game up to Version 2.0. See you on the sidelines...from the main center spotlight...

I'm Giving Up Social-Networking for Lent! I'll Return To The InterWebs In 40 Days!

Yes it's True, after much debate I've decided to honor my faith and remove one the most time consuming things that I love to do, and give it up for lent. Social-Networking, via outlets like twitter, facebook, MySpace and even LinkedIn are on the top of my list to be removed for the next 40 days and nights, during this time I hope that it encourages me to embark on some other hobbies that I've been putting off, and help pour my mental focus into something that will better myself in the end. I encourage anyone else that may be interested in the same thing to follow these guidelines that I feel might be the proper outlook to make this actually count.

Rules:
  1. Disable all notification features on your social networking site to prevent you from looking into your profile(s). I've done this to all of mine.
  2. Delete/uninstall any and all social networking apps for your phone/smart device.
  3. Blogs: I've been torn on this one, blogs are good ways to vent or share important thoughts or pieces of information, and from the feedback I received, I know of some who will continue to blog and some who won't. I will side with the ability to continue to blog as It might help me understand any withdrawals I may have and I still will be able to share my important events that will happen in the meantime. What I will do is turn off my twitterfeed from my blog to my twitter as it will be an automated form of cheating.
  4. Socializing via Cell Phone (i.e. email, Calling or SMS texting) will be acceptable for communication, just make sure that you don't break over into the social sites, not even to view any photos or videos or profiles! This is a MUST!
I have to extend a huge thank you to: Catholic Tech Tip (http://catholictechtips.stblogs.com/) for supplying the images for use on my social sites.
Please take a moment to view their blog and rip the images from them. Until next time,
GOD BLESS AND BE SAFE!

P.S. Please pray for me as I feel I might not last...
