The Relationship Story Episode 7: Haunted (Love Lockdown)

The Relationship Story
Written By: Saúl Acevedo

Episode 7
Haunted

The sunny breeze flows through the open windows of the wanderer's sleek ride. It's black paint job reflecting the bright white clouds and piercing sunshine back into the summer sky. He looks on the expressway road in front of him but really isn't paying attention. All our lonely loner seems to stare at is the reality of the situation he has placed himself in. He thinks about what actions and statements to make when he finally reaches his destination. He receives a text message asking for his location. He checks but doesn't bother to answer, he doesn't feel he needs to answer anything like that. He holds nothing to the person he is about to meet. Shortly after the text message, his phone rings, he picks up and with no emotion states, "Yeah." she cheerfully replies back to him, "How far are you Alex?" "Uh- I don't know maybe 10 mins?" he says. "OK! See you soon!" she belts out. Our lonely loner can't help but be confused with her mentality at this point. He is compelled to ask her, "Why are you so...up beat?" he questioned. She begins to mention to our wanderer that she has been really excited about seeing him again. She begins to go on and on about how she had to muster up the courage to even place the call in the first place and hearing his voice was a huge relief to her. They proceed to hang up with each other and he continues his journey to his destination.

He pulls up at the local movie theater in her town. It was a small town, where there were plenty of people who resided there, but not enough so that even one of the main movie theaters in town still had an empty parking lot. She waited outside her car looking very beautiful, with a sweet innocent smile and looking just as breath taking as she did the first time he saw her. He steps out of his ride, with a calm and cold look in his face, trying to remain emotionless as he finally sees the one who he always dreamed of and longed for during the last couple of months standing alone. "Hey...what's up? Why did you need to see me?" he jolted, she stood there smiling at him and reaching in for a hug, and received no movement from our lonely loner just a laser focused stare and animosity towards her gesture of physical contact. "Fine...grumpy." she fretted. "What the hell did you need to see me for? Do you really think I would want you to touch me? Do you really take me for an idiot like that? Like nothing ever happened?" He sniped. "Look, I'll keep it to the point Alex, I'm in a bad situation and I need you, I always needed you." she said. "Well I figured Angelica, you always needed me, and I was always there for you. You know I loved you right, Angelica?" he stated. "Yes Alex, I knew you did, I always knew I was stupid for doing what I did, and I'm paying for it now. I messed up a lot Alex...sniff-sniff" as the tears began to run down her smooth cheeks, and her big bright eyes were bloodshot and filled with stress, like she hasn't slept for days. "Tell me something I didn't know already." he smirked. The wanderer even took two steps back and laid by the headlight of this ride to enjoy the view he was seeing, Angelica broken down, in what seems to be her lowest point, and he loved every moment of it. He took a closer look at her and noticed that she seemed to have reddish, irritated, marks all over her face and then noticed the same marks on her forearm as well. He couldn't help but reach over and to examine those same marks and she pulled away from him. "What's your problem Angelica? Why are you pulling away from me? You wanted me here right? Well, I'm here now." he said. As much as he wanted to rub in her face about how karma was a bitch, he couldn't help but feel sorrow for her as well. Then realized what has happened while they were separated, karma visited her, and in a way that almost made our lonely loner want to take back all the cursing and hope for vengeance away from her. He realized that she did need him now more then ever, the one he loves, but can he really do it? Does he really want to travel down this path? "I want you to tell me what happened to you. And you better tell me everything, no lies, just truth. Give me the choice I deserved in the beginning Angelica, what happened?" the lonely loner explained. She explained the pain that she has subjected herself too because of her naive ways. She has decided to stay with the one that broke the chain of love they shared and now this person was physically harming her, everyday it seemed. The wanderer looked on and embraced every word that was said, and even reached in to give her a heartfelt hug to ease her stress. "Is this what I wanted as repayment?" he thought to himself, as he petted her long sweet smelling hair. "Maybe this is nothing but a big joke?" he continued his thought, he then pulls away and looks in her eyes, trying to find whatever truth is left in her messed up miserable life, and in that truth, the urge to test it and see if maybe this time around might be different. "Alex, I got what I deserved." she confessed, "I should have never done what I did." she ended. "Look Angelica, I trusted you before but you took me for granted, and messed everything we had up, do you really think I would be that easy to lure back and give you a second shot?" he questioned. The lonely loner stands alone, with now more doubt in his heart, and with a small spark of motivation to consider taking another chance with his faded relationship and swallow his pride for a shot at happiness with the one he truly felt was right for him. The Love he feels is right, but understands is wrong. The wanderer reaches out and takes her hand and pulls her close, and with all resistance released he pulls in and kisses her, making his choice to love this woman, but not the way he wanted to, but the only way he can, haunted with not knowing what awaits him now that he has reunited with his love, and is willing to see this journey to the end.

For this Episode, I reached deep into my personal favorite video collection, and pulled out Kanye West's "Love Lockdown". This particular video sticks out more then the actual music video because of the freestyle that is placed into this performance. It is definitely worth the 10 min length to fully watch and listen to his words. We can have love for an individual that may not be healthy for us in the long run, just as long as we know that we can move on from it. In a relationship that is in the light of a rebuilding possibility, we as individuals take a lot of factors into consideration. Is the situation worth saving in the first place? Does this person deserve me to even consider this at all? Is this the right move for me to make? Lots of questions fill in the thought process and help determine if we will continue to be haunted by past events, and stay affected by them, or will we rise above them and develop strengths that we didn't know we had, to deal with the pain and put our doubts to rest.
